Juice Fast – Day 2

Well, I guess “day 2” officially started last night since my juice fast started with dinner on Monday. And last night was AWFUL. I felt tired, weak, light-headed, and HUNGRY. It was not good. I almost gave up feeling like it was unhealthy and I was starving myself. I forced myself to down a not-so-great juice (supposed to be similar to V8 – and I LOVE hot and spicy V8), but was disgusting. But I made myself drink about 1/3 of it, then went to bed.

This morning I feel pretty decent. On Tuesday morning I weighed down 2 pounds from yesterday morning. I realize most of this is water. Especially since all I did yesterday was pee! Strangely my pee isn’t clear, but I assume that’s because of all of the fruits and vegetables? Normally when I’m drinking enough to pee that much my pee’s clear. TMI? Sorry. I want to give an accurate, real, clear depiction of how this process is going for me. Everything I read last night people are all, “I didn’t lose energy, I had MORE energy. I was NEVER hungry! I felt awesome!”

Uh, yeah. Not so much for me!

I assume last night’s issue was blood sugar related. So next time that happens, I’ll probably make a small fruit juice then do the evening veggie juice. I think my lack of blood sugar had me craving something sweet, so the savory juice did NOT hit the spot. I’m also putting some fruit in all of my juices now, even if they don’t call for it. I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or bad one, but I don’t want to feel like that ever again!

Otherwise, today I feel pretty good. Especially compared to last night. My lips are dry, so I’m going to focus on really drinking water today. And my heads really cloudy. I’m not particularly hungry or anything, but my sense of smell is heightened. I went to buy some jugs of water this morning and about passed out with lust from the smells. I definitely miss food! I miss the taste of it, chewing, and I don’t know what else. I’m not sure if I’ll break that addiction or if I’m making it worse. Aside from how I felt for awhile last night, the food thing’s definitely the worst part for me so far. But I’m pushing through day three before I give up!

Keep going! I suspect it will get easier in another couple days. I’m starting my juice fast on Friday, so really, I have no idea, but I’m hoping it does get easier! I read somewhere that if you’re really missing that feeling of eating a regular meal, try your juice with a spoon. I think many of us are kind of addicting to the whole *process* of eating so that might help. Good luck!

You’ll have to check back and let me know how your fast goes. I only went about 1 1/2 days, and don’t dread quitting. I’m not one for any type of starvation diet, and that’s definitely what was happening to my body. But I also wouldn’t judge someone who feels great on the fast and sticks to it. I think you’re getting most of the vitamins and micronutrients you need. The issue is you’re missing out on the macro nutrients of protein and fat. I switched to eating all whole foods (which means still tons of fruits and veggies) and I’m supplementing with juice and all fruit/veggie smoothies. I feel great. But the fast definitely wasn’t for me. It was a lot harder than I figured it would be. I figured the juice would keep me full, but it didn’t. I feel like if I had time off work to sleep when I felt really weak, I might have made it longer.

However, I’d love to hear how you feel on it and how long you decide to go!
